Case Study
Several month stint to one international location
Situation
During the Covid pandemic, a family with middle school females chose to embark on a several month stint for philanthropic fulfillment. The goal was to work on community projects while keeping their education on track.
Experience
The family was paired with an adventurous educator who tailored daily lessons around volunteer work and expeditions, ensuring the children met academic requirements while also engaging with new cultures. Observations and investigation were emphasized, such as studying the moon’s gravitational effects on tides through coastal visits and drawing marine life in tide pools. Cultural immersion came alive through literature and interactions, such as learning about local tribes and deepening cultural appreciation through daily interactions. Studying the region's ancient empires and visiting historical sites and archaeological digs supported experiencing history firsthand.
Outcome
The girls stayed academically current and gained a broader worldview at a time when most were learning virtually. The family shared this transformative journey that allowed them to give back during a challenging period in history. A greater sense of perspective and empathy was noted in addition to unmatched cultural immersion.
