Case Study

An immersive World Schooling year abroad dedicated to exploring World History firsthand

Family Motive: The desire to travel the globe, exposing their children to the history they are only exposed to in textbooks.

Situation

A family with elementary-aged children sought to explore several countries to expose their children to the locations and events they read only about in textbooks. The family embarked on a year-long travel experience to immerse their children in diverse cultures and to foster a deeper appreciation for global history and traditions.

Experience

The educator created a curriculum focusing on the locations traveled by the family, in addition to ensuring the state standards of their home school were met. The family visited historical sites, landmarks, monuments, and ruins, showcasing the culture, art, and daily life of each destination. The family explored a diverse array of historical sites such as landmarks from the World Wars, one of the Seven Wonders of the World, and various religious sites, each offering a unique perspective on history and culture.

Outcome

The family traveled the globe during a school year, gaining insight into past events, cultures, and societies. The children stayed current with the curriculum of their school while engaging with local traditions, foods, and customs during the trip. A greater sense of empathy and a deeper worldview were developed and were among the many highlights and unforgettable moments of the family’s excursion.
